        Curcuma longa

        Turmeric

Known as the “Golden Spice,” turmeric has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for more than 3,000 years. Traditional Ayurvedic texts describe its use in preparations for digestion, skin care and joint health. A turmeric paste was also applied to brides and grooms before Indian weddings as a symbol of prosperity and new beginnings. It later spread to Traditional Chinese Medicine and along ancient trade routes, becoming both a culinary spice and a valued medicinal plant.

Scientific research on turmeric has focused primarily on curcumin, the natural compound responsible for its characteristic golden colour. Much of the research has examined its effects on inflammatory and oxidative stress markers. In a systematic review published in Clinical Nutrition, researchers analyzed 15 randomized controlled trials and found that curcumin supplementation significantly reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), two biomarkers commonly measured in inflammation research.

Turmeric is featured in Zen Bite and Choco Lico — ritual bars inspired by Eastern herbal traditions.
